  • In Salt Lake City, a four-year-old boy shot police from a car after his father asked him to do so.

  • Sadaat Johnson was previously arrested for threatening employees at a fast-food restaurant.

  • “I’ve never seen anything like it in 28 years of service,” said Sheriff Rosie Rivera.

The incident happened at 1:30 p.m. Monday at McDonald’s in the Midvale neighborhood of Salt Lake City. Sadaat Johnson, 27, had pulled up with his son and daughter (four and three) in the back seat and placed an order at the drive-thru.

Apparently there was a mistake, whereupon the young father embroidered and drew a handgun at the employees at the order window. The terrified staff asked Johnson to drive to the front of the fast food restaurant while they got his order ready. Then they called the police.

Because Johnson then did not follow the request of the officers who rushed to get out of his car, the police took him out of the car by force. “Since we knew he was armed, he was taken out of the car as soon as possible,” said Sheriff Rosie Rivera.

“Sad day for the police and our community”

As officers led the man away, one of them turned and saw a gun being pointed at him from the back seat window. He just managed to push the barrel to the side when a shot rang out. The projectile grazed the officer, injuring him slightly before penetrating a McDonald’s sign.

Johnson’s four-year-old son fired the gun. According to witnesses, the father had asked the little one to shoot at the police officers, like KSLTV.com reported. “I’ve never experienced anything like this in 28 years of service,” says Rivera. “This is a sad day for the police and our community. For a father to think it’s OK to get a four-year-old to shoot the police shows just how far the anti-police campaign has come.” She described the injured police officer as a “hero”.

Johnson was arrested for use of a deadly weapon and child abuse. The two children were taken into the care of the authorities.
