Samsung launches USDC payments on Galaxy devices in the US

Samsung has handed stablecoins a direct route to over 80 million consumers by launching USDC payments across its Galaxy device lineup in the United States, utilizing networks like Solana and Sui while routing custody through firms like Bastion and Coinbase.

What the 82 Million Device Ceiling Actually Means for Distribution

The figure of 82 million devices frequently cited in the rollout represents a compatibility ceiling rather than an active user count. Any eligible Galaxy owner with a Samsung Account, verified identification, and biometrics enabled can access the feature, but actual adoption depends entirely on user behavior. Industry analyses suggest that a modest 1% adoption rate would translate to roughly 820,000 active devices. Samsung is not acting as a bank, money transmitter, or digital asset custodian. Instead, funds are held by Bastion as a U.S.-regulated stablecoin custodian, with Coinbase operating as a sub-custodian safeguarding assets in the Coinbase Prime Vault. Users hold no private keys directly, interacting instead with a custodial money-movement product.

Generating Revenue Through Bank Transfers and Foreign Exchange

Samsung applies no fees for sending USDC directly to another crypto wallet, a process that settles in seconds. Revenue generation centers on the secondary capability: transferring funds to bank accounts in more than 60 countries, where recipients receive local fiat currency without touching a crypto wallet. These outbound transfers carry variable fees based on the destination and amount. While the free crypto-to-crypto transfers establish user habits, the financial returns rely on regulated off-ramps and foreign-exchange conversions. Meanwhile, third-quarter results released by Circle on Wednesday, Nov. 4, demonstrated that rising transaction volume does not automatically yield proportional revenue growth. USDC on-chain transaction volume climbed 49% to $13.9 trillion, and average circulation rose 8% to $73.3 billion. Reserve income dropped 8% to $658 million as lower interest rates offset circulation gains.

How Infrastructure Partners Divide the Stablecoin Workflow

The architecture standing between the customer and the funds inside Samsung Wallet’s new Stablecoin Account involves multiple commercial entities. Samsung controls the consumer-facing interface. Stripe oversees stablecoin purchases, Coinbase delivers the custody infrastructure, and Circle issues the digital tokens. Additional banks and payment providers manage the movement of funds into and out of traditional financial systems. Data from PYMNTS Intelligence indicates that 88% of surveyed firms receiving stablecoins convert them immediately into U.S. dollars. Network traffic distribution also remains unclarified; while Solana processed more than $5.25 trillion in stablecoin volume and partners with platforms like PayPal and Western Union, Sui is also integrated as a network partner, and Samsung has not disclosed how traffic is split between the two blockchain layers.
