Samsung no longer includes a power supply unit with cheaper smartphones either

Samsung hasn’t offered its expensive high-end smartphones with an enclosed product in most countries for the past two model generations power adapter at. The Korean company is now removing the included power supply from cheaper models.

There have already been corresponding rumours, but a look at the description of the scope of delivery of the first two officially presented new models of the Galaxy A series for 2022 provides a corresponding confirmation in Europe and the USA. Both the new Samsung Galaxy A03 and the new 4G variant of the Samsung Galaxy A13 are loud according to retailer listings and entries on Samsung’s website PhoneArena no longer distributed with an included power supply unit.

After the top models, there will soon be mass market models without a power pack

The same probably also applies to the Galaxy A23, which was also presented just last week, and the Samsung Galaxy A33 and Galaxy A53 models, which are expected shortly and will succeed the most successful Samsung smartphones in terms of numbers. The new models of the Galaxy M & F series, which mostly correspond to slightly modified editions of the A series, should not come with a power supply unit with the new model generation that will be launched shortly.
The scope of delivery of the new mid-range smartphones from Samsung is pretty slim without a power supply

Samsung had always given the main reason for not including a power supply unit in the top smartphones in the Galaxy S and Galaxy Z series as wanting to reduce the amount of e-waste. Most buyers of the more expensive devices would already have a USB power supply anyway, which they could simply continue to use after buying their new smartphone. Apple was the first smartphone manufacturer to use a similar argument to do without included power adapters.

Tens of millions fewer power supplies

In the case of the Galaxy A, M and F series, the lack of included power adapters should definitely make a big difference in view of the standard quantities. According to an earlier leak that provided information about the quantities planned for 2022, the three Galaxy A models A13, A33 and A53 alone want to sell around 78 million units.

This means that they each achieve twice or three times the sales figures of the new top devices in the S22 series. If you add the Galaxy F and M series, there should easily be more than 100 million devices – which will no longer be supplied with a power supply unit in the future. In addition to the environmental aspect, Samsung also benefits from not using the included power adapters.

By selling the power packs separately, you can generate more sales on the accessories market and at the same time increase the margin on the sale of smartphones. With the official price recommendations largely unchanged compared to the previous models, the effects of inflation and higher component prices can be at least partially offset.
