Samsung will offer consumers to repair their smartphones themselves

Samsung has just announced the establishment of a self-repair program for its Galaxy products.

While Apple announced at the end of 2021 that it wanted to sell spare parts for iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 to allow consumers to repair their smartphone, Samsung comes to realize a similar project this weekend. Indeed, the South Korean firm has come to announce the establishment of an independent repair program for the Galaxy S21, S21 and Tab S7+. The objective is thus to offer spare parts and guides to carry out certain repairs on your own.

Repair a smartphone or tablet yourself, Samsung is working on it

To set up its self-repair program, Samsung has entered into a partnership with iFixit, a company specializing in the sale of spare parts and offering repair guides. As a reminder, Motorola, Microsoft and Steam have already worked with the company to offer consumer repair programs on some of their products.

Through a Press release, Samsung explains that this partnership will provide access to spare parts, but also “intuitive, visual, step-by-step repair guides” and the necessary tools. Only changes to the screen, the glass back and the charging ports are currently affected by this program.

However, not all products from the South Korean firm can be repaired as soon as this device is launched. Kyle Wiens, CEO of iFixit, explains that the guides are currently only ready for smartphones in the Galaxy S20 range and that the company is still working on writing guides for the Gaalxy S21 and Tab S7+. Near The Vergea Samsung spokesperson clarified that “ Samsung plans to expand range of products, parts and self-repair capabilities as program matures ».

At this time, this Samsung-branded repair program is only available in the United States. However, the company did not give any details regarding the arrival of the initiative in other territories in the future.
