Sports Writing, Aug 25 (EFE).- The San Francisco 49ers sent 23-year-old quarterback Trey Lance to the Dallas Cowboys this Friday for the 2024 NFL season, in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the next Draft.
The Cowboys will pay Lance’s guaranteed salaries of $940,000 in the 2023 season and $5.3 million for 2024.
Lance will be Dak Prescott’s backup on the lone star team.
Trey Lance came to the 49ers selected in the third place of the first round of the 2021 Draft.
The boy born in Marshall, Minnesota, was the bet for the future of the gambusinos who at that time had Jimmy Garoppolo as a stellar quarterback.
For the 2022 campaign, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan opted for Lance to take over the team’s offense over the experienced Garoppolo.
Unfortunately for former college football star North Dakota State Bison, a broken ankle in week two against the Seattle Seahawks sidelined him for the season.
Jimmy Garoppolo returned to the starting job, but in week 13 in the game against the Miami Dolphins he broke his ankle, an injury that opened the door for rookie Brock Purdy, called ‘Mr. Irrelevant’, for having been drafted last in the Draft from last year.
Purdy, 23, had a spectacular performance in the attack for the 49ers who led them to the final of the National Conference against the Philadelphia Eagles, in which an elbow injury prevented him from maintaining the victorious path to the Super Bowl .
With Jimmy Garoppolo leaving for the 2023 season and Purdy undergoing surgery last March to correct the elbow injury, it looked like Trey Lance would have a chance to once again be considered the primary quarterback.
But Purdy’s recovery was successful, so successful that Kyle Shanahan named him the starting quarterback for this season.
Lance challenged newcomer Sam Darnold for the backup quarterback job, which he lost after the first two preseason games against the Raiders and Broncos. He will now seek to make his way with the Dallas Cowboys.
