Sanju Samson: The Rising Star of Rajasthan Royals and Indian Cricket

Sanju Samson has made a place for himself in the minds of cricket fans due to his performances in the IPL rather than in the national team. Currently captain of Rajasthan Royals, he has scored over 3,000 runs for the team in eight IPL seasons.

Sanju spent his childhood in Delhi and came to Kerala in his early teens. His father was a police constable in Delhi. Sanju received his first cricket lessons during his life in Delhi. He came to Kerala and showed wonder while batting in junior matches. Besides his excellent technique, he also showed the ability to time the ball at the right moment. He was selected for the 2011 U-19 Asian Cup, but failed to perform well in the competition. He then failed to qualify for the U-19 World Cup the following year.

In 2013, Sanju was selected by Rajasthan Royals for the IPL. He was only 18 years old then. But they held on even though the team was banned from participating in the competition for two years. Sanju was selected as the captain of Rajasthan Royals in 2021. He made 484 runs for the team that year. He scored 119 off 63 balls in the match against Punjab Kings. Scored 40+ points in three straight games. He scored runs of 70 and 82 and remained undefeated in consecutive matches. Meanwhile, the star was unable to produce consistent performances in the final matches of the tournament. As a result, Rajasthan Royals fell behind in the points table. Rajasthan Royals finished second in IPL 2022. Sanju scored 458 runs for the team that year.

He made his first-class debut in 2011-12 and produced impressive batting and keeping performances for Kerala in the Ranji Trophy. He scored 530 runs at an average of under 60 in 2013-14. This would include a double century in his first match. He also scored 475 points the following season. He was 20 when he was selected as captain of the Kerala team in 2015-16. As of October 2019, he remained undefeated on 212 despite strong opposition. Kerala scored the highest score in the history of the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Goa on that day.

In July 2015, Sanju joined the Indian T20 team. His first match was against Zimbabwe in Harare. He was also included in the ODI squad in 2021. However, there was a gap of one year before the next competition. Sanju scored 54 runs in the second match of the series against West Indies.
