The dark cloak – Emirates Today

I will never forget a scene from the series “The Price of My Life” by writer Fajr Al-Saeed, performed by creator Ahmed Iraj and distinguished and respected artist Heba Al-Dari, and which embodied the moment of fishing. that happened between the two characters. In order for the message to reach the viewer, the writer, as well as director Abdullah Al-Barrak, simply filmed a shot of the actress’ cape falling to the ground only, and without any innuendo or innuendo. vulgarity, we conveyed the meaning with all the strength, depth and creativity in the presentation, and it was a symbol of great importance for compromising honor and distorting chastity.

This work was made in 2002, the golden age of satellite television and the world is open to each other, and the Internet is in every home and cafe, but I don’t remember reading a single article criticizing the scene in the press. or in forums, and society has not spoken out against the story or artistic style followed by the writer. The director and actors are responsible for conveying the meaning, and no one said that this work “does not represent our Gulf society.”

So why are people getting angry today when similar issues are being raised in the Gulf drama? Why do certain artists – to defend their works – accuse society of being contradictory and of not accepting to see its faults on screen?!

From my point of view, many Gulf works did not face harsh criticism from the public, because they were simply written in a highly artistic language that respected the Gulf family in all its slices of life. age, and the most sensitive issues were presented in a sophisticated manner. way that makes the viewer respect the work and the artist, and this is proof that we are not contradictory and that we do not deny our faults and our problems, but we are people of “modesty and dissimulation ”, and this is an inherent trait of us, the people of the Gulf, regardless of the extent of our mistakes and shortcomings.

I do not demand that the works be ideal and academic. I believe in artistic diversity and I support boldness in presentation, but today there are digital platforms that can produce the content they want, and through them the head of the company. The family can control what their family members watch, but when they produce… For the sake of television, and specifically for the holy month of Ramadan, you must understand that you are entering every house without permission, and here you need to “wake up” your artistic conscience and take into account the discussion of sensitive topics within the limits of tact and politeness.

Do not doubt the company itself and the fact that it practices double standards because it refuses to publish its superficial washings on the television networks. We are a society that has privacy and the right to preserve it, even in works of art.

If dropping the abaya “symbolically” is enough to convey the strongest messages, why do you “realistically” insist on dropping the abayas?!
