Santa Elena Gallery Pamphlets: An Insight into Allusions to ELN

Several pamphlets referencing the guerrilla of the National Liberation Army (ELN) were found in the Santa Elena gallery sector of Cali, prompting public concern on Monday afternoon. Brigadier Daniel Gualdron, commander of the Metropolitan Police of the Valle del Cauca capital, confirmed that a box with numerous pamphlets, attributed to the urban war front Comandante Camilo Torres Restrepo, was left on a public road in the gallery. The Cali judicial police are investigating the authenticity of the pamphlets, taking into account factors such as logos and terminology used by the armed group. One of the sections of the pamphlet reads: “Today, looking forward to the government’s total peace proposal, it is worth asking ourselves why leaders continue to be assassinated, stigmatized and threatened?” In addition, the pamphlet threatens to continue “insurgent actions” and urges the people of the Colombian southwest and Pacific to “stay in the just fight for social transformations from their various spaces of transformation and resistance.” Two cylinders adorned with ELN colors were also reported on the Pan-American highway, but the Army ruled out the presence of explosives.

The presence of several pamphlets alluding to the guerrilla of the National Liberation Army (ELN) in the sector of the Santa Elena gallery, in Cali, alerted the public on Monday afternoon.

The commander of the Metropolitan Police of the Valle del Cauca capital, Brigadier Daniel Gualdron, confirmed that a box with several pamphlets, in the name of the urban war front Comandante Camilo Torres Restrepo, was abandoned on a public road in the gallery.

“Around noon we were informed that on the public highway in Carrera 23 with Calle 29, in the Santa Elena gallery sector, some pamphlets were found in a box,” the Colonel explained.

According to the Commander, the Cali judicial police have already activated all the protocols to verify the authenticity of these pamphlets, taking into account elements such as logos and terminology used by this armed group.

“Today, looking forward to the government’s total peace proposal, it is worth asking ourselves, why do leaders continue to be assassinated, stigmatized and threatened?” reads one of the sections of the pamphlet that supposedly belongs to the ELN.

In another part of the text, he also threatens to continue “his insurgent actions” and even “calls on the people of the Colombian southwest and Pacific to stay in the just fight for social transformations from their various spaces of transformation and resistance.”

Just this Monday, the presence of two cylinders with the colors of the ELN was reported on the Pan-American highway. However, the Army ruled out the presence of explosives.

As tensions remain high in Cali with the discovery of pamphlets alluding to the ELN, the Colombian government’s call for total peace in the region seems more important than ever. However, with the continued threat of violence and insurgency from armed groups, it’s clear that there is still much work to be done in achieving lasting peace and stability in the region. We can only hope that the government’s efforts will not falter and that the people of Cali will soon be able to live without fear of violence and unrest.
