Santaka Park in Kaunas will become an arena for first aid games: a valuable experience for everyone

Registration will take place until April 1. Next to the amphitheater in Kaunas Castle, various educational events are planned for the public.

Following the example of Ukraine

On May 1, Kaunas Santaka Park will become a symbolic field of struggle for life. Here, for the first time, the first aid (PP) games “Palaikau pulusa” will be held, where representatives of Lithuanian institutions, companies, associations and other organizations will test their knowledge and skills.

Participants will have to perform practical tasks in an attempt to stabilize the condition of the allegedly injured person and reduce the threat to life.

“The idea to organize such games came from observing the “Paramedics” competition held in Odessa. Employees of Ukrainian organizations and even housewives tried their hand here. They reacted to simulated unfortunate events at work or in public spaces, demonstrated the ability to maintain critical thinking and work in a team.

Everyone should be able to provide first aid, regardless of education. Irreplaceable skills are forgotten, and work is where most of the time is spent. It is the colleagues nearby who are the first to recognize an acute condition, injury and take care of the injured person until the medics arrive,” Irena Malašauskienė, director of the First Medical Aid Training Center “IRTA”, presented the idea of the event.

According to her, teams from Odesa, Kiev, Dnipro, Cherkasy and other cities came to the annual games in Ukraine. It is expected that in Kaunas it will also be possible to gather several dozen teams with first aid certificates and who want to deepen their skills.

The event is organized by the Lithuanian Paramedics Association, the First Aid Training Center “IRTA” and the Lithuanian Rifle Association, the partner is Kaunas City Municipality.

Will value knowledge and skills

The participants of the games will compete with each other in five practical tasks. Each team will have to make an initial assessment of the situation. When solving the tasks, they will use the tools of the first aid kit, they will provide explanations to the evaluators about the actions performed and their sequence.

Those who wish to participate in the competition must form a team of 3 members and choose a captain. Registration of participants takes place until April 1. 10 o’clock online: bit.ly/palaikaupulsa. A maximum of two teams from one institution or organization can participate.

The quality of PP provision will be assessed by the competition commission, made up of representatives of the Lithuanian Paramedics Association, the First Aid Training Center “IRTA” and the Lithuanian Rifle Association. The winning teams with the most points will be awarded prizes and thanks from the organizers.

Basics of first aid

“Not remaining indifferent, knowing how to properly take care of a person affected by illness or injury until the arrival of professional doctors is a skill for life. We can be proud that such initiatives are born in our city to improve first aid skills and gain additional knowledge in saving lives.

Kaunas has already hosted ambulance games, school games, student games and even citizenship games, the mass event “Kaunas gaivina”. Now it’s the turn of employees of institutions, companies and all Kaunas to prove themselves, so I invite you to mark May 1st in your calendars and actively participate in meaningful activities”, – Kaunas Vice Mayor Andrius Palionis invited to the event and education.

The event is intended for everyone – residents and guests of the city will be able to closely watch the “Palaikau pulus” games and the tasks performed by the teams. An educational space is also provided for the public in the courtyard of Kaunas Castle, next to the amphitheater. Viewers will get to know the essential principles of first aid, learn how to use the tools in the first aid kit, listen to topical messages and ask questions.

Success stories motivate

“One of the noblest acts is to save another person’s life. If a person knows how to do it, how to give first aid, he will have confidence in his own strength and will confidently lend a helping hand. We live in turbulent times and you never know when such knowledge and skills may be needed. It is for this reason that now is the most appropriate time to accumulate knowledge and learn from each other”, emphasized the importance of the event, the commander of the Lithuanian Rifle Association, Col. Lt. Linas Idzel.

According to him, the shooters have repeatedly demonstrated not only empathy, but also confident actions based on knowledge of first aid and constantly maintained skills. These are inspiring and motivating success stories.

Eligijus, a shooter of the 2nd national team of Vytautas the Great’s shooters, noticed a car parked on the side of the road with an open door, and did not remain indifferent. The passenger’s heart stopped, the man stopped breathing. Timely initial resuscitation brought the man from Kaunas back to life. When the medics arrived, he was already conscious.

Recently, another story was heard, when the cadets and young shooters of General Povilas Plechavičius lyceum took care of a homeless old woman. Frozen feet with dangerous superficial skin lesions were warmed by hands, and after the first aid procedure, the woman was transferred to the care of paramedics and further treatment.
