The Directorate of Meteorology of Chile announced that this Thursday the highest temperature so far this year was recorded in the Metropolitan region.

in conversation with BioBioChilethe meteorologist Arnaldo Zúñiga said that during this day the thermometers reached the 36,1°C in Quinta Normal.

“Historically, from 1912 to date, it is located as the third highest temperature in December. And in the last 50 years, it is the 2nd highest temperature that has been recorded in December,” said the expert.

Meanwhile, in the warmest area of ​​the Metropolitan region, in Lo Pinto, near Colina, the thermometers marked 38,2°C.

“At least this month of December, the average maximum temperature is in 32,9°C that is, very high. If we compare with normal temperature, this figure is 4°C higher”, indicated the meteorologist.

It should also be noted that the nighttime minimums have registered an average of 13.6°C.

“Temperatures above 30°C, in Santiago and Rancagua, have been recorded for 14 days, which is an anomaly,” Zúñiga said.

From Meteorology Chile they foresee that from today the temperatures will go down, so that such high temperatures would not be registered during the next week.

“Already towards what is the weekend, temperatures will tend to decrease, at least the maximum and minimum, to a minimum of 12°C and a maximum of 27°C for Saturday. The rest of the week, it is maintained, we do not wait peak heat for next week,” he said.
