Santo André Healthcare Transport Reaches 1 Million Passengers

Santo André’s dedicated healthcare transport initiative has officially surpassed the milestone of one million passengers transported during its first year of operation. Designed to streamline travel for residents heading to medical appointments, clinical tests, and treatments across public and private health facilities, the service moves an average of 88,066 users each month.

The operation relies on the coordination of two municipal bus routes: the B45, which connects neighborhoods to the city’s hospital hub, and the B31, which links the Jardim Santo André community directly to the Poupatempo da Saúde located inside the Atrium Shopping. Developed by Santo André Transportes (SATrans), the transit strategy draws on origin-and-destination studies to prioritize medical access for commuters who depend on public transit.

Integration and Route Networks Across Municipal Hubs

The municipal transit system schedules roughly 2,800 daily boardings under the healthcare transit banner. Operations officially began on October 25, 2025, functioning as part of the broader Promobi mobility framework, a structured plan that earmarks R$ 240 million in investments for municipal roadways and public transit through 2028, which includes R$ 200 million dedicated to zero-kilometer fleet acquisition and continuous renewal.

The B45 route begins at Rua Rio Vermelho in Jardim Riviera and travels to Avenida Professor Valdemar Mattei, providing direct access to the Mário Covas State Hospital. Along the way, the line passes near the Municipal Hospital Center, the Perimetral Emergency Care Unit, and the Casa da Esperança, while also running alongside the designated site for the future Vila Luzita Hospital.

Private hospital networks also benefit from the integrated transit corridors. The route passes near major private facilities including the Brasil, Beneficência Portuguesa, Santa Helena, Santo André, São José, and Christóvão da Gama hospitals and maternity clinics.

Express Connections and Specialized Care Access

Complementing the hospital-focused B45 route, the B31 line provides express transportation for residents traveling from Jardim Santo André to the health-focused service center inside the Atrium Shopping. This connection speeds up pre-scheduled consultations, specialized medical procedures, and the retrieval of diagnostic test results.

By tailoring these bus corridors to patient traffic demands, municipal transit planners have sought to reduce travel times for residents requiring frequent visits to medical centers. The ongoing integration with the city’s broader transit network continues to guide adjustments as the Promobi initiative moves forward.
