Saudi Arabia reports first case of monkeypox

The Saudi Ministry of Health detected the first case of the monkeypox virus in a person returning from abroad on Thursday, the official SPA news agency reported.

Several Saudi media, including the Al-Arabiya channel and the Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper, confirmed the registration of this first case in the country, without however specifying the nationality of the victim.

According to the ministry, the infected person receives medical care in accordance with sanitary measures. And to add that all contact cases show no signs of illness.

The Ministry of Health has also assured that it continues to follow the evolution of the virus very closely in order to prevent its spread.

On July 7, 2022, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that it had recorded more than 6,000 confirmed cases of monkeypox, including three deaths since the beginning of the year worldwide.
