Yesterday evening, Thursday, the “Saudi Film Festival” was launched in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in its eighth session, with the participation of 80 Saudi and Gulf films.

The festival, which is being held at the theater of the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) in the city of Dhahran, will compete for its prizes, 36 films between long and short, including eight Gulf films, in addition to 44 films within the parallel screening programme.

The opening ceremony included honoring the name of the late Saudi actor Khalil Al-Rawaf (1895-2000), and the name of the late Kuwaiti director and producer Khaled Al-Siddiq (1945-2021). The ceremony also included announcing the names of the winning works in the unexecuted script competition, as this session received 235 participants.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Film Association, writer and director Hana Al-Omair, said that the festival begins its “rich and diverse programs for this year with an increase in the number of seminars, courses and training workshops, and this year is witnessing more publications of books and publications, and an expansion in the production market and its participants.”

She pointed out that the eighth session “came under the title of poetic cinema, which is a general feature of the festival that carries multiple meanings.”

The program, which runs until the ninth of June, includes the organization of four seminars discussing (the Saudi novel in cinema), (the concept of Saudi film), (the poetry of cinema and its aesthetics), and (legal dealings with international broadcasting platforms), in addition to six specialized workshops, and the issuance of 14 a book.
