There is a flood of inquiries from parents about the unprecedented proposal made by Shinan-gun, Jeollanam-do to save Hongdo Branch School, which is on the verge of closure.
According to Shinan-gun on the 30th, the proposal is aimed at providing accommodation and jobs worth 3.2 million won per month to parents of students who enroll or transfer to Hongdo Branch School.
As this information became known, calls from parents continued to inquire. The number of views on YouTube containing related content exceeds 1.51 million, and it is known that parents of over 80 households from all over the country, including Donghae City, Gangwon-do, have called to inquire about transferring schools.
Shinan-gun plans to recruit the fourth generation on a pilot basis.
We also plan to provide four residential spaces (2 or more rooms) where people can live comfortably in Hongdo and have good living conditions.
In terms of selection criteria, priority will be given to families with many elementary school students, and under the same conditions, families with many students in lower grades will be selected.
Hongdo has a population of about 500 and the entire island is a natural conservation area (Natural Monument No. 170). It is 107km away from Mokpo and takes 2 hours and 40 minutes by speedboat.
Park Woo-ryang, mayor of Shinan County, said, “As we have seen explosive interest in the Hongdo branch school case, we plan to expand it to schools on the main island of Heuksan and small islands nearby.”
