Schertsos: Non-state universities and the political deadlock of the opposition – Politics: News, Events and Current Affairs – 2024-02-28 13:49:08

“We are moving forward with yet another self-evident reform that corrects yet another Greek exceptionalism”, points out Akis Skertsos, in his post on social media, on the subject of changes in university education. Given the opportunity, however, the Minister of State attacks SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance and PASOK – Movement for Change for their stance on the matter.

In detail, “the ostrichism of SYRIZA and PASOK on the issue of non-state universities and the constantly ambivalent attitude of their leaders is yet another example that explains both the current political impasses of the opposition and why self-evident reforms have been unjustifiably delayed in our country, creating conditions of backwardness compared to the rest of Europe.

Starting with PASOK, it is questionable why its current leadership chooses to go against at least two of its previous presidents, G. Papandreou and E. Venizelos, who for many years have been in favor of the self-evident – and of course with strict rules supervision – liberalization of higher education. Trying to fish from the murky waters of SYRIZA voters, PASOK is becoming SYRIZA as it slips and falls back into positions and tactics that do not meet the needs and problems of 2024.

And SYRIZA and its leader who at the same time presents himself in almost messianic terms as the “savior” of his party and the country, partly due to his good studies in very good foreign non-state universities, once again prove political hypocrisy which characterizes them as what they themselves enjoy as individuals abroad they refuse to offer to our fellow citizens within borders”.

In the end, “quality higher education is the main belt of social mobility and advancement especially for our weaker fellow citizens. In the face of the ideologies and sterile tactics of the opposition, which once again chooses to turn its back on the current problems of the citizens in order to supposedly be consistent with ideas of the 20th century, we move forward with yet another self-evident reform that corrects yet another Greek exceptionalism.

Only in this way will we be able to recover the lost ground of the previous decades and create an open, quality, extroverted public school and university. With real evaluation and self-evaluation of structures, teachers and books for an education system that offers modern knowledge and opportunities for social advancement to all citizens who want to stay, study, work and create in our country instead of wandering abroad”, he emphasizes closing the Minister of State and gives credit to the Minister of Education Kyriakos Pierrakakis.
