School supplies have been on sale since the end of June/beginning of July. Is it better to buy them now or wait until the end of the month to take advantage of the most advantageous prices?
It is a “nightmare” vision for the students. In the middle of summer, in the middle of the holidays, the supermarket shelves are full of double copies, 21 x 29.7 cm notebooks, binders, ballpoint pens or transparent pockets.
If the students do not have the head at all at the start of the school year – it is scheduled for September 1 – the parents may think about it a little more. Catalog promotions begin this Monday, August 8 in the majority of large retailers. With prices increasing month after month, should we already buy supplies or wait for promotions a few days before the start of the school year?
The pupils all had the list of the main school supplies at the end of the school year, at the end of June. Buying supplies is therefore already possible, which will not prevent you from making some additional purchases after the start of the school year.

“It is better to buy the supplies at the latest by the end of the month”, recommends Olivier Dauvers, specialist in large distribution, interviewed by The Midi Dispatch. “The promotions of the catalogs of the signs stop at the end of August. From September, the supplies will cost more, that’s for sure. There will be no more promotions”. He adds: “Catalog prices were negotiated several months ago and do not always include inflation, especially for paper pulp. There is no point in waiting.”

As with each new school year, to attract parents and their children, large retailers are competing with each other in commercial operations. Leclerc announces the maintenance of 2021 prices on 200 supplies in 2022 and essential supplies at less than two euros, Auchan promises essential back-to-school supplies at less than one euro, Carrefour announces a filled schoolbag for less than 15 euros, Intermarché up to at -70% in card advantage, Super U a low price return, Géant Casino a “maximum purchasing power” return.
School supplies are naturally available in specialized stores such as Cultura, Bureau Vallée or specialized sites such as Rentrée discount.
