As you remember, in mid-March, developers from the SCS Software studio announced transfer additions “Heart of Russia” for Euro Truck Simulator 2 for an indefinite period due to events in Ukraine.
Almost three months later, the developers again turned to the audience and stated that they would not release the add-on. At least for the foreseeable future. Below is the full appeal of the Czech studio.
On February 24, 2022, the expansion team had about 6-8 weeks to complete the work. We were all very pleased with the result; a lot of effort has been put into making this new region look really fantastic in the game. We were absolutely sure that our community, especially in Russia, would really appreciate it.
Then the whole world was shocked by the sudden news that Russia had invaded the territory of Ukraine. We were shocked.
With deep anxiety, we watched the news and quickly realized that we must do something to help those in need. We started helping several charitable organizations that provide humanitarian assistance on the territory of Ukraine and support those who tried to evacuate. Later, with the kind participation of #BestCommunityEver, we further increased donations by transferring all proceeds from the sale of the Ukrainian Paint Jobs Pack DLC. It’s great to see that so far over 85,000 of you have decided to purchase it and contribute to this noble cause. Thank you!
However, now our team is faced with uncertainty. We asked ourselves a lot of questions, some of the obvious ones. Will we ever be able to release “Heart of Russia”? Should we finish the job at all? Since then, we have finally agreed.
When developing our games, we try to be as apolitical as possible, thus shielding the global audience of players from everyday disputes. We really like the idea that our shared passion for simulations allows people to connect, take virtual trips to neighboring countries and enjoy a common hobby that unites rather than divides. But since the DLC is directly about Russia, and so many people are suffering, we decided to hold off on releasing it so that it is in no way perceived as support for or tolerance for aggression.
We firmly believe that there is hope that the proud people of Ukraine will triumph and suffering will end for all. Injustice cannot and must not win. And when the time comes to restore and heal Ukraine, we will try to find a way for the “Heart of Russia” to play any role in this process, and for everyone.
