Not on the ferry on June 21

The young woman was supposed to take the ferry in the other direction on June 21. But Celine was not on board. The last contact with his sister dates back to June 13. At first, the lack of news was nothing to worry about: the traveler, who regularly made solo road trips with her white Honda CRV, had reported that she would be in the white zone (without possible communication via Internet). The last internet connection on her mobile phone dates back to June 20, says Amélie Cremer.

But the days passed, without her showing up. His mother and his sister then contacted all his relatives, in Australia as in Belgium. In vain. Céline’s best friend reported the worrying disappearance from Belgium to the Tasmanian police, who immediately contacted the Cremer family by telephone. In the aftermath, the Australian local police issued, Monday, June 26, a notice of search (“concern of welfare”).

An investigation was immediately launched in Tasmania. Police were able to quickly establish that the missing woman was last seen on June 17 in Waratah, in the northwest of the island, about 4.5 hours by road from the capital Hobart. The place is popular with hikers, especially to discover the magnificent falls of Philosopher Falls, which can be reached by a rather easy path – it takes less than an hour from the parking lot.

And it is precisely in this parking lot that Celine’s car was found on Tuesday. Without any trace of the young woman. The police then began to search the area around Philosopher Falls. On Wednesday, police, backed by drones, were still patrolling the scene. But the search is complicated by poor weather conditions – it is winter in Tasmania: it is very cold and there is light snowfall. The Philosopher Falls trail has been temporarily closed to the public to facilitate the work of investigators, on land and in the air. Even if he was not sure that the helicopter, scheduled for the end of the day, could take off.

Tasmania Police are also asking anyone who was in the Watarah car park from June 17 to contact them. “Céline’s car was towed for expertise in order to find elements that will help the investigation progress”, further indicates Amélie Cremer on Facebook.

It has been almost two weeks since the young Belgian gave any sign of life. Research will continue in the coming days, with sniffer dogs. But the hope of finding the young woman safe and sound dwindles as the hours go by.
