Sebastian Gibbs is returning to Netflix as Director, Original Series, reporting to VP of Scripted Series Teddy Biaselli. Starting August 17, Gibbs will oversee intellectual property and tentpole franchises after spending the past four years as a Senior Television Development Executive at Amazon MGM Studios.
The Streamer Executive Pipeline and the Amazon-Netflix Talent Exchange
Yet Gibbs is making a rare second tour of duty at Netflix. He previously worked as a Director of Original Series for two and a half years, handling drama and four-quadrant programming before leaving for Amazon in July 2022, according to reporting by Showbiz.
The flow of talent has largely moved in the reverse direction over the past year. Last September, former Netflix executive Peter Friedlander took over as Head of Global TV for Amazon MGM Studios. Friedlander subsequently recruited several other Netflix alumni to fill key positions within the studio.
Two Decades of Prestige TV Development
Gibbs brings a 15-year industry background to his renewed role at Netflix. Earlier in his career, he served as Vice President of Television and Senior Vice President of Current Programming for MRC, alongside a tenure as Director of Current Programming for CBS.

His production oversight credentials include high-profile dramas and thrillers such as Ozark, The Diplomat, The Outsider, The Great, and Scarpetta.
Structuring IP and Tentpole Franchises
At Netflix, Gibbs will focus specifically on intellectual property and tentpole franchises under Teddy Biaselli’s scripted division.
Gibbs’ official start date is set for August 17, putting him immediately at the center of Netflix’s ongoing scripted development strategy.
