Seizure of half a ton of cannabis

Nearly half a ton of cannabis resin (428 kg), representing a market value of 3.2 million euros, was seized in the Arve valley by the research brigade of Bonneville in Haute-Savoie , the gendarmerie said on Saturday.

The operation, which resulted in the arrest and custody of six people, took place on March 7 in Cluses and Scionzier “after very complex investigative work” and mobilized 62 soldiers from the Haute-Savoie gendarmerie group, supported by three dog teams, according to a press release.

Investigators also seized luxury cars, clothing and watches, large sums of cash and handguns.

Two people detained

An investigation for flagrante delicto has been opened for drug trafficking under the authority of the Bonneville public prosecutor. At this stage, it has led to the provisional detention of two people.

“This operation deals a major blow to organized crime in the Arve valley”, underlines the gendarmerie which recalls that this territory had experienced during the summer of 2020 an “episode of serious violence (…) which s is reflected in particular by two assassination attempts and kidnappings”.
