Selma Blair, the actress known for her public battle with multiple sclerosis, faces a potential seven-year prison sentence following an incident aboard a flight from Los Angeles to New York last month. The 54-year-old actor is accused of attacking two flight attendants, a police officer, and a nurse, leading to two second-degree assault charges, which she has pleaded not guilty to.
Blair Appeared in Court After Flight Incident
The incident occurred on an October 11 flight where witnesses stated Blair consumed wine. The pilot subsequently alerted authorities that the actor may have mixed alcohol with her medication. Released on a $20,000 bail, Blair appeared in court where her attorney, Shawn Barnes, attributed her actions to a combination of factors. Barnes explained that Blair had forgotten her doses of a “powerful medication” used to control her MS, had fallen and hit her head before the flight, and that these factors, combined with altitude, caused “serious confusion and disorientation.” He stated, This was not a deliberate attack.
However, when the judge asked to consider Blair’s acting career, the judge responded, Ms. Blair should not receive special treatment because she is a celebrity.
Previous Air Travel Issues Could Jeopardize Blair's Career
This is not the first time Blair has faced issues during air travel. In 2016, she was removed from another plane after crying and making strange accusations that a man had “abused her,” after which she was strapped to a gurney. Sources familiar with Blair describe her as like a bomb ready to explode at any moment
and possessing volcanic anger
that can surface unexpectedly. Now, Hollywood sources suggest this incident could jeopardize her career, stating, It might be difficult to get insurance for future film and television roles. Unfortunately, that’s how it goes when you are arrested.
Upcoming Court Proceedings
Blair’s case is scheduled to be heard in state court on January 19. The legal proceedings will determine the outcome of the assault charges and the potential consequences for her career.
