Senator Campillai denounced aggression by far-right protesters

The Independent Senator Fabiola Campillay denounced this Monday to have been attacked by a group of protesters just outside the Courts of Justice, in the center of Santiago.

Through a public statement, the parliamentarian’s team explained that this event, recorded on Calle Compañía de Jesús, was carried out by a group of far-right demonstrators, who rebuked her as she walked -along with her personal assistant- to her office in the former National Congress.

“They heard screaming from these people and then one of them aggressively walks over to them, so the personal assistant covers and defends the senator from the threat and a possible physical attack and questions the aggressors“, they indicated in the letter.

Along these lines, they strongly criticized Carabineros personnel at the scene, accusing them of “they did not grant the necessary security and protection” to the authority: “Citizens who passed by and saw the situation approached the Senator to give her protection, while the Carabineros involved stayed with the aggressor demonstrators,” they affirmed.

After this event, “both went alone and without police security to the premises of the former National Congress”, they assured from the parliamentarian Campillai’s team, also reporting that the personal assistant “resulted in a muscle contracture in his right arm and handas a result of the intervention and excessive use of force caused by the Carabineros personnel”.

Finally, they warned that this attack “attempts against democracy and against a survivor of human rights violations and is punishable by lawso it goes to file the respective complaint against all those who are responsible. We demand that all authorities condemn these events, investigate and identify these people.”
