The debate over the end of the season decided by the LFP has moved to the Senate. Monday, François-Noël Buffet (Rhône, LR), Catherine Di Folco (Rhône, LR), Élisabeth Lamure (Rhône, LR), Michel Forissier (Rhône, LR), Michel Savin (Isère, LR) and Claude Kern (Bas- Rhine, UDI) have tabled an amendment to the urgent provisions to address the Covid-19 epidemic to allow the resumption of the 2019-2020 season of professional sports, including football.
“The delegated sports federations and professional leagues may decide to resume professional competitions in order to complete the 2019-2020 season, if the health situation allows and after the opinion of the committee of scientists provided for in article L. 3131-19 of public health code, they write in this amendment n ° 242. To do this, they define, under their responsibility, and in agreement with the State, a health protocol adapted to the resumption of competitions which determines the conditions under which athletes, necessary staff and the public can participate in these competitions. “
A tiny chance of being adopted
Michel Savin and Claude Kern have proposed a second amendment (No. 243), which concerns the next season. They want the committee of scientists to hand over, “No later than June 30, 2020”, “an opinion on the health risks attached to the resumption of professional and amateur sports competitions for the 2020-2021 sports season”.
However, these amendments have very little chance of being adopted, given that the government has given an unfavorable opinion. If they pass the Senate, the texts would come back to second reading in the National Assembly where they would certainly be rejected and deleted during the examination of the law.
