Senators: They suffered a 5-1 loss to the Flames

The Ottawa Senators will want to forget their last week on the road after losing this time 5-1 to the Flames in Calgary.

The Ontario formation suffered defeats in front of the Chicago Blackhawks and the Vancouver Canucks in the last days. The journey began with three losses in four games and the Sens allowed a total of 19 goals during this stretch.

The situation is therefore complicated for the race for the playoffs with 70 points in 66 games. The Islanders are last ranked among teams drafted in the Eastern Conference with 76 points in 68 games.

The Flames set the tone for the game with the nets of Rasmus Andersson and Elias Lindholm in the first period.

After a response from Tim Stützle, Jonathan Huberdeau distinguished himself. Huberdeau skilfully redirected a throw-in from Nazem Kadri and the disc ended its race behind Kevin Mandolese. It was the 13e net this season from Huberdeau.

The Senators goaltender also gave up on Noah Hanifin and Trevor Lewis to finish the game with 35 saves on 40 shots. Mads Sogaard had been in action the day before in Vancouver and he appeared to be injured during the match.

For the Flames, Jacob Markstrom saved 30 pucks. The Flames are within five points of the Avalanche and the last playoff ticket in the West.

The Senators’ concerns are also directed towards the infirmary. Defenseman Thomas Chabot left for the locker room in the third period when he received a throw from Mikael Backlund on a skate. Chabot was limited to this sole presence on the ice during the last engagement.

The Ottawa Senators also announced during the game that Mathieu Joseph injured his lower body in the first period. He did not return to the meeting.

Joseph was on the ice for only 2:36 before being forced out of the game. The forward has 17 points in 46 games so far this season.

Ottawa will end its journey on the opposing rinks on Tuesday against the Edmonton Oilers.
