Vienna (OTS) – A vein of salt was discovered behind the Vienna City Hall. Now two questions arise: Can professional salt mining be carried out in Vienna from now on? And can the pumpkin seed oil egg dish at the Steirerball on January 12, 2024 be refined with real Viennese salt?
Professional salt mining could soon be carried out in Vienna. This was made possible by a sensational find: the discovery of a salt vein near Vienna’s Rathausplatz.
After this astonishing salt discovery in the heart of Vienna, experts from the Ausseerland-Salzkammergut were called in to examine the salt vein behind Vienna City Hall: Mag. Harald Pernkopf from Salzwelten GmbH, a subsidiary of Salinen Austria AG, and Herbert Hierzegger, chairman of the tourism association Ausseerland-Salzkammergut, have come to the federal capital to personally check whether the 7,000-year-old tradition of salt mining can now be continued in Vienna.
Viennese salt at the Steirerball
“The experts have brought Styrian know-how in salt mining to Vienna, the second largest Styrian city, and will actively support us in further project planning and implementation,” says Mag. Andreas Zakostelsky, chairman of the Styrian Association in Vienna, who is a An important link in this salt mining project is: “We as the organizers of the Steirerball in the Vienna Hofburg are interested in a quick start to salt mining in Vienna, because we naturally hope that we will be able to serve the traditional pumpkin seed oil egg dish on the evening of the Steirerball on January 12th, 2024. and can already season the delicious Styrian delicacies from the Ausseerland-Salzkammergut with real Viennese salt.” The first samples of the “Vienna Town Hall Salt” have already been distributed in small salt shakers to interested passers-by.
“We are pleased that we can support this exciting future project of the Styrian Association in Vienna with the expertise of Salinen Austria AG,” says Pernkopf. And Hierzegger adds: “As Ausseerland-Salzkammergut and partner of the Steirerball 2024, it is of course a particular concern and pleasure for us to promote salt mining in Vienna.”
Happy, elegant ball night
The Steirerball with its unique mix of Styrian cheerfulness and classic Viennese elegance will dance again in the Vienna Hofburg on January 12, 2024: The musical range spans from folk music, jazz and blues, pop, waltz and polka to quadrille. As part of the opening, the Altaussee Salinenmusik will play the national anthem. Afterwards, the Klangvereinigung Wien, the Graz City Orchestra, the Big Band Bad Gleichenberg, the Beat Club Graz, the Streetview Dixie Club with its jazz songs from the 1920s and 1930s, Beppo’s Dance Band with Beppo Muchitsch or the cover band EGON7 will play in the Hofburg. Music groups from the partner region Ausseerland-Salzkammergut will also be playing at the Steirerball 2024, making music through the halls and corridors of the Vienna Hofburg. “This means that the Styrian flair and attitude to life can be felt in all ballrooms,” says Zakostelsky.

Tickets for the cheerful federal state ball on January 12, 2024 in the Vienna Hofburg are available for 119 euros www.steirerball.com. Students with a valid student ID pay 54 euros up to the age of 30. Tables and seats can now also be reserved online. On the evening of the ball, tickets are available at the box office for 125 euros.
