Appeal of the Belarusian Party of the Left “A Just World” to the citizens of Belarus
On March 3, 2023, the Law of the Republic of Belarus “On Amending Laws on the Activities of Political Parties and Other Public Associations” came into force.
The provisions of this law significantly complicate the conditions for the creation of new and the activities of existing political parties. For example, in order for parties to have the right to exist, the minimum membership has been increased five times. At the same time, parties have only three months to comply with the new requirements of the legislation. Those political parties that fail to do so will be liquidated.
The Belarusian Party of the Left “A Just World” believes that the provisions of the new Law contradict the norms of the current Constitution of the Republic of Belarus. The main goal of the innovations established by this law is the elimination of political parties objectionable to the authorities. Those parties that dare to criticize the decisions of the authorities and offer alternative ways of political and socio-economic development of the country.
As a result of the implementation of the adopted Law, the multi-party political system, which is one of the constitutional foundations for the implementation of democracy in the Republic of Belarus, will be actually destroyed, the ability of citizens to influence the socio-political life of the country through participation in the activities of political parties will be significantly reduced. Only those parties will remain on the political field that have never objected to the current government and, moreover, have never actually defended the interests of working people.
History shows that, having begun an attack on the political rights of citizens, the authorities, as a rule, do not stop. Their next goal is labor and social guarantees. Only the people themselves can prevent such a development of events by showing civil and political activity in order to protect their interests.
