Sergio Berni will take medical leave after the attack received in a bus protest

The Buenos Aires Minister of Security, Sergio Berni, He took a medical leave until May 25. The objective is complement medical studies and the corresponding treatment for a lesion in the maxillary sinus who suffered from the aggression received from a group of bus drivers, in the midst of a protest over the death of driver Daniel Barrientos.

This was reported by the Buenos Aires Government, which indicated that Berni “He will be replaced in the operational part by the Undersecretary for Training and Professional Development, Javier Alonso”, while the administrative matter will be in charge of “the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Julio Alak.”

“This way, We continue working to respond to the problems of the people of Buenos Aires from the investment, professionalization and modernization of the Security force of our Province”, indicated from the administration of Axel Kicillof.

That protest by drivers led to attacks against Berni and it is likely that he will have to undergo surgery, because the problem was not resolved with the prescribed care.

Aggression against Sergio Berni: how it all began


On April 3, at the intersection of Juan Manuel de Rosas and General Paz avenues, the bus drivers complained about insecurity, after the Barrientos crime above an inmate of the 620 lineand some of them hit the Minister of Security.

As a result of the injuries suffered, Berni suffered a maxillary fracture and head trauma.

On April 11, two of the drivers who attacked him, and who were later detained for a few hours, publicly apologized to the Buenos Aires official.

In this sense, Jorge Galeano told him that he felt bad about what happened and that he was a “work person”: “I made a mistake and this cannot happen again, with violence this cannot be fixed.”

For his part, Jorge Cerdathe other driver, assured that when they attacked the official after the murder of his partner Barrientos in La Matanza they were “he dropped the chain.”

“We are hard-working people who love what we do”, remarked Cerda, another of those arrested at that time.

Berni thanked the apologies and pointed out: «My apologies were from the moment. I never generated anything and, as I said, I will never file a complaint, because I understand this situation.”

Despite the fact that the minister did not initiate legal action for the attacks, the Justice acted ex officio and carried out the investigation that led to these arrests.
