Serious accident in Bas-Saint-Laurent

An 81-year-old man lost his life in the early followingnoon when his vehicle was hit on Route 132 in Saint-Fabien, in Bas-Saint-Laurent.

The octogenarian was driving his car on Chemin du Cap-à-l’Orignal when he wanted to enter Route 132 and that’s when he was fatally hit by a vehicle that was traveling westbound. An 80-year-old lady accompanied the victim. The latter, having suffered serious injuries, was taken to hospital, but there is no fear for her life.

The people in the other vehicle were not seriously injured. Experts from the Sûreté du Québec were called to the scene to reconstruct the scene. Among the hypotheses put forward by the authorities, the 81-year-old man may not have seen the vehicle that was coming, but an investigation is underway.

Route 132 was closed in both directions until 7 p.m. Witnesses told the Journal that the section of road between Trois-Pistoles and Rimouski was very busy on this Sunday of a long three-day weekend.
