A very serious road accident occurred Sunday in Templeuve, at the exit of the A17 Tournai-Mouscron motorway. Two cars collided. Two elderly people were seriously injured and hospitalized. The vital prognosis of one of the two victims is engaged, we learn from the Wapi firefighters.
Two seriously injured sisters
The Wallonia Picardy emergency services were alerted on Sunday, at 12:05 p.m., that a violent collision between two cars had occurred along the national road, shortly after the Templeuve exit of the Tournai-Mouscron motorway (A17). A vehicle heading towards Templeuve collided at a crossroads with a car coming from the center of the village.
Wapi firefighters dispatched two SMURs, two ambulances, an extrication vehicle, a beaconing truck and a command vehicle to the scene. “In one of the two cars, there were two women, two sisters aged 75 and 80. They had to be extricated. Both were seriously injured. For one of the two victims, the vital prognosis is engaged“, explained around 2:00 p.m. Lieutenant Harold Vaesken who led the intervention.
After being stabilized by emergency physicians, the two victims were transferred to the emergency centers of Union hospitals in Tournai and Kortrijk. In the second vehicle, the driver, aged around 30, is unharmed. He was alone in his car. The report of the facts was carried out by the police of the Tournaisis area.
