In Kreuzlingen in the canton of Thurgau, a 60-year-old driver was driving on the mountain road into town shortly after 9.15 a.m. According to her information, she noticed smoke developing in the rear of the vehicle while driving and then stopped on the right-hand side of the road, according to the Thurgau cantonal police. Shortly thereafter, the car was in full fire. The Kreuzlingen fire brigade was able to extinguish the fire.

No one was injured, but property damage amounted to several thousand francs. According to current knowledge, a technical defect is in the foreground.

Minibus bursts into flames

Even before this event, there was a traffic obstruction due to a vehicle fire. Shortly before 5 a.m., the driver of an Aargau minibus was stuck in a traffic jam on the A2 motorway heading south. When restarting, there was a bang and smoke in the engine compartment. The two people who were in the vehicle were able to exit unharmed. A fire broke out in the minibus within a short time, causing the vehicle to burn out completely, according to the Uri canton police. A technical defect is the primary cause of the fire.

The A2 southbound autobahn had to be completely closed for an hour and was only open to one lane for another 1.5 hours. At the Gotthard north portal, traffic was backed up for twelve kilometers on Saturday morning.

At 10.25 a.m., on the way from Chur to Rothenbrunnen, a 53-year-old driver noticed that the engine performance of the vehicle was reduced. The man immediately steered the car onto the breakdown lane, according to the Graubünden cantonal police.

When the vehicle stopped, the driver noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment. Shortly thereafter, the vehicle caught fire. The eight emergency services from the Chur fire brigade’s road rescue team were able to quickly bring the fire under control. The burnt-out vehicle was towed away. The cause of the fire is being clarified by the Graubünden cantonal police.

Because of the vehicle fire, the A13 motorway had to be completely closed to the south.

As a result of the vehicle fire, there were traffic delays on the A13 motorway. After a primary complete closure of the A13 southbound highway, one lane was reopened to traffic after the extinguishing work. At 11:30 a.m., the scene of the accident was cleared and the A13 southbound highway was open to two lanes.
