At the trial in the city of Sassari in Sardinia, Meloni will be called as a prosecution witness, Italian media reported on Tuesday.
The hearing before Judge Monia Adami is scheduled for July 2nd, Meloni is on the prosecution’s witness list. The two defendants from Sassari, the 73-year-old father and his 40-year-old son, must answer for defamation of Meloni, who was not yet Prime Minister at the time and had filed a complaint after some of her employees responded to the spread of the “deep fake” videos had become aware of.
Compensation of 100,000 euros
During the proceedings, Meloni’s lawyer Maria Giulia Marongiu demanded compensation of 100,000 euros. If the head of government is awarded the amount, she wants to donate it to a fund for victims of violence that has been set up at the Ministry of the Interior.
The investigation was carried out by the police, who identified the two men based on the username used on the website and the telephone number from which the fake videos were distributed. According to the public prosecutor’s office, the sex videos were edited using graphics software.
