A Shanghai official said Sunday that China’s financial center will ease requirements for COVID-19 testing from June 1 for those who wish to enter public places or use public transportation to encourage the resumption of work and a return to normal life.

From June 1, those who enter public places or take public transportation will have to show a negative result for a corona test taken within 72 hours, compared to 48 hours before that, Shanghai government spokeswoman Yin Xin said at a press briefing. There will be no changes to the tests for those who want to leave the city.

The city announced 93 new asymptomatic cases of the coronavirus, down from 131 the day before, while symptomatic infections also decreased from 39 to 29.

And one new infection was recorded outside the quarantine areas, unchanged from the previous day.
Shanghai reported no deaths related to COVID-19 on Saturday, unchanged from the day before.
