THIRUVANANTHAPURAM ∙ Shanthi Perera, who won gold for Singapore following nearly 50 years in Asian Games athletics, has connections with Thiruvananthapuram. Thiruvananthapuram Vettukad is the native land of Santhi Perera’s grandfather NH Perera. He lived with his wife Eliamma Perera in the Shoshama large house in Kochuthope. Shanti is the daughter of his son Clarence Perera. But Shanti has not come to Kerala yet.

NH Perera was working in Singapore. His children were born and raised there. Later he returned to Kerala but the family remained there. Eliamma Perera went to Singapore following the death of NH Perera in 2012. Their close relatives are still in the Vettukadu area. Shanti and father are now in Hangzhou. Will return to Singapore tomorrow.
