• You chose the field of tissue design, how do you see this field, and what achievements do you aspire to achieve in it?

For me, textiles are related to the work of women in the past and the way they used to socialize. My great-grandmother Maitha was an amazing craftswoman, and she is the one who showed me what she uses to create the most elaborate and intricate garments, all handmade. Personally, I hope to leave my own mark in the field of textiles and their designs, by highlighting the importance of the garment, and appreciating its essence and proportions.

• What inspirations do you take from the geography of the place? What motivates you to be creative?

I get most of my inspiration from photography and engineering installations. Capturing an idea or color combination is what really stimulates my creativity. Current events also help me feel that I have a message that I need to communicate through my work. One of my favorite prints I created for PRNTCODE in collaboration with Hamzat Wasl was my spec print which started walking the streets of London when I lived there after a rainy day. There were light colored threads hanging and because the pavement was still wet, it reflected off those beautiful colors, creating beautiful organic shapes.

• How do you translate what is in your imagination on the fabric?

– I am more curious about the development of a project rather than the final product, as many of my projects or ideas begin with a fascination with a type of weaving or spinning technique that I want to implement. As my creative process evolved, I learned to enjoy having two modes of work at once. One is fast and satisfying, the other slow and conscious. For example, I use an electric bristle gun to create a boldly graphic rug, and yarn to knit a tapestry. These two contrasting ways also reflect two sides of my personality. For knitwear, I usually start a project with a simple plan that eventually turns into something completely different.

• Do the colors reflect your boldness? Or express a particular spiritual or psychological state? Describe your relationship to color?

Color is my way of expression both professionally and personally. As a child, I had a hard time expressing myself through words. Colors My Voice The louder and bolder my voice, the stronger the statement I aim to make. My work usually epitomizes daring, which I associate with the power of a woman. This is why my work is usually a mixture of saturated colors to get that message across. My colors are a celebration of vibrant, energetic, and daring women, which bring out and channel this side of the women who wear them.

• What do you carry in your personality from every city you resided in?

– I lived in New York while I was attending Parsons School of Design and throughout my time there I felt that there was a great deal of inspiration and creativity surrounding me. New York, to me, was a city that did not follow a complete trend. It was also filled with many creative facilities such as the Met and Fotografiska Museum which was my inspiration. While in my country, the Emirates, I feel there is an air of ambition that motivates me to strive to break down artistic barriers. All the places I’ve lived in have offered me something different. Currently, I live in Oregon, which is where I’m learning to slow down, appreciate time and nature.

• What do you aspire to?

I aspire to be a woman that others can look up to, by encouraging them to take care of themselves, follow their own intuitive journey, and hear their true voice.

• Can you define your first and main passion for us?

– My interests are diverse, but my first passion without any thought is horse riding, because it is not just a hobby but rather my life, and I allocate ample time for it, even if I do not have time in the midst of my preoccupations, because it relieves me of the stress, tension and pressures of life, and always puts me in a good mood . And I do not take it as a hobby, but as a profession.

• Some people think that specializing in one field and being proficient in it is the most beneficial. Is it difficult for you to break this rule?

– I feel that I have broken this rule, which says that you donate more when you specialize and dedicate yourself to one field, but I see that if you specialize in several fields or specializations, you can excel in it because you love it.

• What does presenting the “Zahrat Al Khaleej” program add to your media career, and how would you describe this entire experience?

Presenting this program, I consider it one of the most important things that happened to me, because it was a challenge for me, and I love challenges. Thank God, I succeeded and loved it very much, and the program opens up many other fields for me.

• How does our presence in a multicultural society affect us?

– Our presence in a tolerant society such as the Emirati society provides us with many opportunities, whether in terms of learning, getting to know cultures and museums, or even eating traditional dishes, and also allows us to seize multiple opportunities to succeed in several fields and with international companies present on the land of the Emirates. For example, as a young Emirati woman, and due to globalization and cultural diversity, I had the opportunity to be the face of an advertisement for Carolina Herrera, which is of Venezuelan origin. These opportunities did not exist before, but this has become our reality.

• What governs your cooperation with brands: your conviction in what you offer, the financial return, or more fame?

– I have to be convinced of the company’s products and ideas before contracting with it, whatever the financial return, but my method of choosing companies to contract is due to my preference for companies over others, and some of the companies I contracted with despite the financial return being little or no charge, it was like a dream for me to I lead her declaration, so I accepted the contract. My entry into the world of photography and fashion was the result of my love to work in this field and the camera, not out of fame, but with the spread of social media in my field, this became an integral part of the field of fashion and marketing, and with it comes the fame I mentioned.

• After all these successes, what do you aspire to?

– My final ambition is to leave my mark in the world of horse racing for endurance and the world of fashion, not as Marwa, but as an Emirati woman. I would not like to leave the room for European beauty to sweep ads only in our streets and spaces, but rather the time has come for Emirati beauty and excellence to appear on international screens, whether I appeared in an advertisement for an international company that chose me among a sea of fashion models in the world, or I appeared carrying a global horse racing trophy . My dream is to appear as an honorable and simple example of Emirati women and their international distinction.

• Why did you choose paddle sports over others? How did your professional journey begin?

– I started playing paddle tennis as an amateur sport first, and then I got an offer from a sports club, and the sponsorship had a great impact on the level of performance. I developed greatly and was chosen for the Emirates team for paddle tennis. I chose paddle sports because it is different from other sports. It is a team sport with a great challenge.

Sports, photography and culture are different fields that you have mastered, what do they have in common?

The love and passion emanating from within is what combines all my various interests and hobbies, and it is what drives me and motivates me to present and give my best.

• Who is responsible for your choices? Did the parents have any influence?

– The parents have a big role in my success, and I thank them for all the support and endorsement they gave me. And had it not been for them standing by me past and present, I would not be who I am today.

You chaired the cultural committee during your academic studies, where is the culture today in the age of social media?

Culture today is in a significant and remarkable development in the era of social media, and everything is just a click away. Not to mention, of course, the technological development that accompanies all websites and platforms that provide us and the future generation with all sources of information, references and books online.

•You are a living example of modern women with diverse interests, where do you derive vitality in your personality from?

– Vitality comes with movement. I exercise every day for at least an hour, and this helps me sustain vitality in my personality and activity in my body, and gives me the energy needed to perform all the tasks entrusted to me with all haste, and provides me with clarity of mind, of course.

• What are you aiming to achieve?

– I aim to motivate Emirati women to enter various fields, as they are generous, persistent, empowered, and able to be the best version of themselves wherever they are.
