“She constantly had to go to the bathroom”

Last week, Katrien Van Roy did not understand why or how Letty, her 5-year-old daughter, fell seriously ill. “I was worried: it looked like a flu but very serious”, she says in the columns of the Latest news. Exhausted, drained of her strength, the little girl contracted a high fever and severe abdominal pain. “She had to constantly go to the toilet because she had diarrhoea. At one point, she was going there thirty times a day, ”adds her mother, who had to take time off to stay with her.

Worried, Katrien immediately takes her daughter to her doctor. The latter, surprised by the child’s abdominal pain, wanted to analyze his stool. The verdict fell a week later: Letty was the victim of food poisoning. For her mother, the misunderstanding is still total: what is the food that made her daughter so sick? “I remade the film of what we had eaten just before she fell ill. My husband, my daughter and I had the same diet. Except for the desserts…”

The revelation

Indeed, Letty is entitled to a Kinder Surprise after meals. She had eaten it two days before falling ill and one the same day. “When I saw in the newspaper that Kinder Surprise chocolates were being recalled due to an outbreak of salmonella, everything was clear to me! “. Suspicions that were quickly confirmed: his package was on the list of recalled products.

If she contacted the FASFC, Katrien was disappointed with their reaction: “a standard message of apology”. “Letty is therefore not officially considered by them as someone who fell ill because of their chocolate”

Today, the 5-year-old girl is doing much better even though he has decided to give up the Kinder Surprise… at least for a year!
