She is married to two men by mistake

A French town hall mistakenly listed the name of the mayor of the city instead of that of the husband of a 51-year-old woman, and the latter only realized it 17 years later.

“It is well written there that I got married in 2006, the problem is that it is absolutely not the name of my husband which is written here but that of the mayor who united us”, explained Catherine, d ‘after the magazine “Demotivator”.

Catherine is therefore officially married to two men. The name of her husband is written on her marriage certificate, but it is that of the mayor of the city of her commune who appears on her birth certificate.

The problem is that in France bigamy is illegal and it is the birth certificate that prevails in case of succession, Catherine is therefore married to the mayor in the eyes of the law.

“If anything happens to my husband, then I wouldn’t have the right to anything since I’m not really married to him,” she lamented.

The 50-year-old has tried to resolve this situation, but the town halls are passing the buck to each other, and do not seem to be overly worried about it.

According to the lawyer who deals with this file, the error was made by “the town hall of birth at the time of the transcription of the marriage certificate”.

The 50-year-old must therefore ask her birth town hall to send her a rectification document in a civil act.
