The start of the process after an umbrella attack on the army

2023-07-05 19:42:00

After an umbrella attack on a Bundesheer comrade in February in Enns (Linz-Land district), a 21-year-old man has to answer for deliberately causing serious bodily harm in Steyr on Thursday. The tip of the umbrella pierced the eye socket of the 33-year-old soldier, injuring him so badly that his vision was impaired and he was partially paralyzed, the court said.

After a decommissioning seminar, the party first took place in the barracks and then in a bar. It was there that the accused began to swear, according to the indictment. Later there may have been a war of words, following which the accused is said to have struck with the umbrella. Since the 33-year-old victim sustained permanent damage, the maximum penalty is 15 years in prison rather than ten. The defendant only claims to have vague memories and merely threw the umbrella. Seven witnesses and a forensic expert are invited to the trial.
