United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said Friday he was shocked by the attempted assassination of Argentine Vice President Cristina Kirchner, after a gunman tried to shoot her at close range.
UN spokesman Eri Kaneko said that the Secretary-General was shocked by this news, condemns this violence and expresses his solidarity with the Vice President, the government and the people of Argentina.
A 35-year-old man shot Mrs. Kirchner in the head, but his attempt was unsuccessful.
The young man was in the midst of a crowd waiting for her to salute her and ask her to sign a book that narrates her autobiography after she ruled the country for two terms from 2007 to 2015.
