Russian catering has complained about a shortage of canned anchovies. About it report Vedomosti with reference to two restaurateurs and one representative of a large retail chain.

They note that this fish can be used as an appetizer, and can also be used as one of the ingredients in Caesar salad sauce, which is very popular among Russians.

In particular, Yakitoria pointed out a shortage of the product. According to the chain’s brand chef Stanislav Bakharovsky, anchovies for this salad were most often purchased in Italy, but in the summer Russia introduced a temporary ban on the import of fish products from unfriendly countries. It still works today.

The publication’s interlocutors emphasize that the remainder of such products are currently being purchased from suppliers. There are virtually none left, they point out.

Russian authorities introduced restrictions on the import of fish and seafood products from unfriendly countries in July. The list of such states includes the USA, countries of the European Union, Canada, Norway, Ukraine and others. The ban will be in force until the end of the year.

Previously, the All-Russian Association of Fishing Industry (VARPE) advocated amendments to legislation that would exempt marine fuel from increasing coefficients when calculating export duties.

The letter states that the introduction of the duty will be followed by an increase in the cost of fishing and an increase in the cost of production of almost all fish products produced by Russian fishing companies.
