Significant delays on the E42 at Lambermont towards Verviers for what is not a pothole

This Thursday, February 23, a pothole was reported on the E42, in the direction of Battice towards Malmedy just after the Lambermont exit, on the viaduct. Far from a pothole, it is actually a problem with a flexible slab, as explained by SOFICO spokesperson Héloïse Winandy.

“It is a reinforced concrete slab which is covered with hydrocarbon, and which allows very slight movements of the bridge. It’s the same principle as an expansion joint,” explains the spokesperson. For some unknown reason, the slab fell apart. “This slab is problematic. Work is planned on the level of the concrete and the coating. Furthermore, the output of Lambermont is not altered. »

So the current problem has nothing to do with a pothole. “If it had been a pothole, there would simply be a hole and no material would be visible on the outside,” says Héloïse Winandy. In this case, before the repair work, material could be observed outside the hole in the pavement.

The right lane is currently closed to traffic for a distance of 300 meters, reducing traffic to one lane instead of two. The work is scheduled until Tuesday, February 28, “subject to weather conditions, because the concrete needs time to set. Drivers will therefore have to be extra careful and slow down at the work site, as the situation can be dangerous.
