Significant Fire Breaks Out in Brussels Uccle: Material Damage and Quick Shelter Saves Lives

A fire broke out overnight from Saturday to Sunday inside a squat in Uccle, Brussels firefighters said on Sunday. No one was injured but the material damage was significant.

The fire was reported around 2 a.m. in a house on rue du Bourdon, in the south of the capital. When help arrived, the three people residing illegally in the building had already been able to take shelter from the flames.

The firefighters had to destroy part of the roof in order to overcome, around 05:00, the blaze. The cause of the fire remains to be determined.
