Property developer Sino Group plans to collaborate with the Environment and Ecology Bureau to establish an Asia-Pacific Belt and Road green technology centre for industry, academia, and research in the Northern Metropolis. The developer was admitted to the International Green Development Coalition on October 25.
The proposed facility will function as a platform for training, exchange, and exhibitions. It aims to showcase green technology prototypes and innovations from members of the International Green Development Coalition for the Belt and Road Regions, aligning directly with the National 15th Five-Year Plan.
Sino Group and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd secured admission as new member organisations during the coalition’s second general assembly of members on October 25. During that exact gathering, environmental protection director Dr Samuel Chui secured election to the coalition’s council.
The Environment and Ecology Bureau and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment recently established a cooperative platform. This structure connects with the coalition network to facilitate exchange amongst Belt and Road countries and regions regarding green technology, policy, and capacity-building.
Dr Samuel Chui noted that Hong Kong set up the Belt and Road sustainable green development training centre this year. The city also organized the Belt and Road Green Innovation Conference 2026, which opens on October 26 as the first such event held outside mainland China.
Hong Kong will continue to use its strengths to help the nation build green Belt and Road initiatives, Chui stated. Jointly established by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and partners from the mainland and overseas, the coalition seeks to initiate open, inclusive, and mutually beneficial international cooperation.
