Siri will support more streaming services on HomePods

Among the vast list of news presented by the Apple during (and after) the opening keynote of the WWDC23it’s easy for some details to go unnoticed — but there’s always someone attentive enough to notice them.

In this sense, a Reddit user noticed that, in the corner of the slide with a summary of the innovations in Audio and Home presented by Maçã in the keynote, there is something aimed at HomePods: support for AirPlay for the Siri.

This will make it possible for the virtual assistant to play content from even more streaming services (in addition to Apple Music), such as YouTube Music, TIDAL, SoundCloud — and even to audiobook platforms such as Audibleand podcasts, like Overcast. Notably, Spotify e Amazon Music were not highlighted.

Currently, you can play music from many services (besides Apple Music) on HomePods using AirPlay from an iPhone — but so far, it’s not possible to ask Siri to do this for you.

While Siri’s AirPlay support isn’t quite as seamless as the native integration — as you’ll still have to ask for a given track to play “on YouTube Music” or else it’ll play through Apple Music — this is a huge improvement. for subscribers to these services.

Apple did not specify when the novelty will be released to everyone.
