‘Sisters and sisters 2’ – work 18+ּ Minh Hang, Ngoc Trinh played – exceeded 100 billion VND despite being criticized for being weak in the script, abusing the ‘hot’ scene.
On the morning of February 9, a representative of CGV – the distributor – said that the film reached 101 billion dong after 16 days of release. The work is the second Vietnamese film to reach this milestone this year, followingMadame Nu’s house (Director and co-producer by Tran Thanh, currently more than 400 billion VND).
Mr. Will Vu – the producer’s representative – said he expected movie revenue to continue to grow during the Valentine season. In the near future, the unit plans to release internationally, starting in the US, Australia, Japan, and Korea. After about three months in theaters, the film will release online.
Lunar New Year season, Sisters and sisters 2 (directed by Vu Ngoc Dang) is one of two rare Vietnamese films participating in the race. Set in Saigon in the early 20th century, the film is inspired by anecdotes of two ancient beauties – Ba Tra (Tran Ngoc Tra) and Tu Nhi (Marianne Nhi). The script delves into the process of becoming the first beauty of Tu Nhi (played by Ngoc Trinh) and the story of fighting for the throne. She was a young girl from a poor background. To earn money for her mother’s treatment, she sold herself into a brothel, fervently wishing to escape poverty. By chance encountering Ba Tra (played by Minh Hang), she admires and is determined to enter the upper class. Tu Nhi planned to cheat to be taught how to “become a first-class beauty”.
The film made many mistakes in the script, how to deploy the character’s psychology. Ba Tra is described as a more clever character than people, knowing how to manipulate the press to surpass many young beauties, thereby maintaining the top position. However, she was repeatedly staged by Tu Nhi, pushed into difficult situations and then helped to gain trust. The film’s message is fuzzy and inconsistent. The character Tu Nhi wants to get rid of the status of a prostitute, but in order to enter the elite, she is willing to use her body as a tool for advancement.
Sisters and sisters 2was commented on abusing the 18+ּ factor. At the beginning of the film, Ngoc Trinh has a scene of pouring water on her body, her clothes are stuck to reveal her bust. Many viewers rated this “hot” scene as redundant. Stitching costumes is also a minus point of the work. Designer Nguyen Minh Cong commented that the innovative dresses of the two main characters were wrong in the context of the early 20th century. He said that during this period, the Saigon aristocracy was mainly influenced by the West. Like France, it is difficult to have long, transparent dresses like movies.
