A Puerto Rican court issued a restraining order against the Latin American singer, Ricky Martin. The detention is suspected to be a case of domestic violence (KDRT).

Reporting from the Associated Press (AP), Sunday (3/7/2022), the restraining order was signed on Friday (1/7). Police spokesman Axel Valencia said authorities had also visited the upscale neighborhood in the northern coastal city of Dorado where the singer lives to try to carry out the order.

“But until now the police have not been able to find him,” said Valencia.

It is not known who requested the restraining order. Valencia said he could not provide further information because the order was filed under Puerto Rico’s Domestic Violence Act.

Valencia said that the order forbade Ricky Martin to contact or telephone the person who filed it and the judge will later determine at trial whether the order should remain in effect or be revoked. He added that orders are usually carried out for a minimum of one month.

Valencia continued that the person who applied for the restraining order did not contact the police, who could engage prosecutors to determine if there is sufficient evidence to press charges. Instead, the request went straight to the court.

El Vocero, a Puerto Rican newspaper, said the restraining order stated that Ricky Martin and the other party dated for seven months.
