Situation restored after a broken pipe at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital

About 20 patients have returned to the emergency unit at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital following being moved due to a broken pipe.

The incident occurred late Friday followingnoon when a hot water pipe broke in the emergency unit. “The leak was plugged last night,” confirmed CIUSSS de l’Est-de-l’Île-de-Montréal spokesperson Christian Merciari in an interview. “We carried out the work to remove the water, disinfect everything and put everything back in order. »

He assures that the situation is fully back to normal. Due to the breakage, ambulance diversions took place in the evening but ended at 11 p.m. Friday. About twenty patients already present in the emergency room were moved to other units of the hospital “during the cleaning and sterilization work”, he continues. They were able to return to the premises on Saturday morning.

The cause of the pipe break remains unknown. “We know that it is not because of the dilapidation of the building, since the emergencies are not in a very dilapidated pavilion”, notes Mr. Merciari. “It’s nothing major. We managed to control the situation. »
