Ogiwara actually made his way to the Plaine Morte Glacier this week to show a Backside 1800. The historic 2160 was actually a coincidence: “When I had the 18, I realized that I still had some time left. So I thought: maybe I can even get the 2160.”
It took the teenager from Ushiku five tries before he actually nailed the world’s first backside 2160 in snowboarding. “On the last try, the jump felt perfect. Everything was right in the air, too. That’s when I knew I had made it.” He was “shocked” and “not quite sure if it was really a 2160”. When he finally saw the video, he said he was “thrilled that I had actually done six rotations”.
