MOSCOW, January 12. /TASS/. St. Petersburg SKA beat Moscow’s Spartak 5:2 in a regular season match between Fonbet and the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). The meeting took place at the Megasport arena in the presence of 9,128 fans.

Among the winners, Mikhail Vorobyov (4th minute), Valentin Zykov (34), Sergei Tolchinsky (35, 38) and Arseniy Gritsyuk (39) scored goals. Ilya Kovalchuk (46) and Joey Keane (55) scored for Spartak. “Spartak” started the match with Dmitry Nikolaev in goal, after the fourth missed goal he was replaced by Slovakian goalkeeper Patrick Ribar.
Kovalchuk scored his 400th point in the KHL; the player now has 173 goals and 227 assists in 413 games. Kovalchuk became the 20th player to reach the 400-point mark in the KHL. Earlier in the league, the striker played for SKA and Avangard Omsk. As a member of SKA, he won the Gagarin Cup twice (2015, 2017), and won the trophy once with Avangard (2021).
Spartak suffered its fifth defeat in a row. Previously, the red-and-whites lost four away matches against Vityaz near Moscow (4:5 OT), CSKA Moscow (1:3), Dynamo (2:3 OT) and Dynamo Minsk (1:3).
Thanks to the victory, SKA surpassed Spartak in the Western Conference standings. Now the St. Petersburg team is in third place with 68 points after 50 games, Spartak is fourth with 67 points after 51 games. In the next match, SKA will play away against Severstal Cherepovets on January 14, and Spartak will host Metallurg Magnitogorsk on the same day.
In other matches of the day, Avangard beat Khabarovsk Amur away with a score of 3:2, and Siberia won an away victory over Admiral Vladivostok (4:2). Severstal beat the Chinese Kunlun Red Star on its ice (2:1), the Kazan Ak Bars in Chelyabinsk lost to the local Traktor (1:3), the Nizhnekamsk Neftekhimik beat the Ufa Salavat Yulaev at home (2 :0).
