News culture Sleeping at Nintendo is now possible

Are you an unconditional fan of the Nintendo universe? Are you passionate about the history of the giant, and know everything you need to know about it? So look no further, we have unearthed the ultimate experience: It is now possible to treat yourself to a night in the firm’s historic premises.

Hotel Marufukuro, a place steeped in history

The project had been brought to light some time ago. It’s now official: Hotel Marufukuro has just opened its doors. Beyond the charming building, the great particularity of the place lies in its history. Located in Kyoto, the building housed the brains of Nintendo for many years.

Before Nintendo became one of the biggest players in the video game industry, the firm – created in 1889 by Fusajiro Yamauchi – offered “Hanafuda” playing cards for sale. With his company, Yamauchi San quickly found success. With this exponential growth, Yamauchi San and its employees finally moved to their first real building in 1933. Now the Hotel Marufukuro, the building owes its name to the Yamauchi San company: Marufuku Co, Ltd. It wasn’t until much later that the company would adopt the Nintendo name and eventually relocate in 1959.

Technically, therefore, the place has indeed known the Nintendo teams. On the other hand, he did not really know the great video game era of the firm. Nevertheless, this building marks the true beginnings of the company, and today constitutes a place steeped in history for anyone who is passionate about Big N.

A luxurious experience

Now rehabilitated, the building has been transformed into a hotel and now welcomes its customers, whether they are Nintendo fans or not. It must be said that the Hotel Marufukuro is not strictly speaking a museum dedicated to the firm. It has retained many historical elements from this bygone age, starting with its plaque where Nintendo’s first name can be read in kanji. The style of the time has also been preserved, especially in the hotel suites, in order to best transcribe the habits and customs of the residents of the time.

In addition to the historic plaque and name, many Hanafuda cards produced from Yamauchi San’s time have been framed in the hotel corridors. Finally, we find on the shelves several consoles of the firm transformed into real “works of art”, like the NES or the GameCube.

Hotel Marufukuro is therefore more intended for true Nintendo fans, or for lovers of luxurious experiences. Sleeping in the building still has a cost: it takes around €750 to spend the night there. Quite a price to afford the roof of a priceless building.

You can find the details of the hotel on its official website.
