A carrier traveling on the express road between Dottignies and Mouscron lost part of its load on Tuesday. Palm oil spilled at several roundabouts, making the road slippery.

The scooter driver fell and was injured.

“Around 12:20 p.m., we were told of a slippery road on several roundabouts on Boulevard des Alliés and at the Martinoire roundabout, said Lieutenant Fabrice Hubaut. Once there, we tried to clean the pavement using our usual products, but it didn’t work. We called a technical service with a large brush but it was not yet the solution. We have had confirmation that it is palm oil. We are looking for solutions and we may call on civil protection. In the meantime, traffic on Boulevard des Alliés remains disrupted. We have already dumped 6,000 liters of water.”

The emergency services deployed two teams, with two tanks, a marking vehicle and an officer vehicle. They collaborate with the police services and the municipal authorities.

Moreover, the City reports that a specialized company is now expected on site for a complete cleaning of the roads.

“Until the end of the operations, motorists are asked to avoid driving on the RN 58 in the Dottignies-Mouscron direction as much as possible. Mouscron police teams are present on site to supervise and secure travel. Coming from Dottignies, the particularly critical points are at the level of the roundabouts, which are closed to traffic, underlines the City in a press release.Near the Futurosport, a diversion route is set up by the rue de the Rouge-Croix and the drève des Préaches, to return to the RN 58 after the restaurant La Chaumière de l’E3. In the other direction of traffic Mouscron-Dottignies, as well as on the Route de la Laine, which has also been soiled, the disturbances are less. injunctions from police officers supervising traffic.”
